So I dug out my dad's old shotgun a Remington sportsman 48...it's a semi auto 12 gauge...he has 2 barrels for it....one is the stock full choke good for 2 3/4 inch....the other is the same thing except it's been honed out to accept 3 inch shells....it was made to be a lead only upland gun so it's very light...I put a couple of Fast steel shells through it and it kicks like a Missouri Mule....now I know that it's a Full fixed choke so I maybe shouldn't shoot steel thru it...but for now because I have 2 barrels I'm gonna chance it...but my question is this...can I put an upgraded barrel on it?...one with chokes that will except steel shot ok...and I was told a newer barrel would have a different sized forcing cone that would cut down on the recoil..,what barrel?...would an upgraded Remington barrel off another gun fit it?...just looking for a few suggestions while your letting your Christmas dinner settle....thanks ahead of time..

It would be advisable to send the barrel in to get the rem chokes fitted to it. If I recall that is pretty much the same as the Browning auto 5. I thank God it is cold enough to wear a heavy coat lol it kicks like a mule.
