UPDATE: Thursday, October 3, 2013
The search continues Thursday for a suspect wanted in connection to shooting three people in Greenwood County, two of whom died.
Thursday afternoon, Greenwood County Sheriff Rusty Bitler said a 26-year-old woman remains hospitalized in critical condition, but her 52-year-old mother and 54-year-old stepfather were killed in last night's shooting. Their identities have not yet been released.
Sheriff Bitler said the woman was the ex-girlfriend of shooting suspect, 35-year-old Kevin Robert Welsh of Toronto, Kansas. He says the shooting was domestic violence-related.
Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies continue to search for Welsh. Several law enforcement officers searched for evidence around his home in Toronto earlier today. SWAT Responded just in case anyone was inside, but nothing was found.
Investigators believe he drove away last night in a 2007 Ford Explorer. This morning, officers found that SUV abandoned in eastern Greenwood County. His current whereabouts are unknown, but investigators said he might head to Park City.
A USD 259 spokesperson says that extra security has been assigned to Chisholm Trail Elementary in Park City as a precaution since he could be in the area.
Court documents show that Welsh was arrested on August 23 on several charges including three counts of kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of criminal threat and a count of domestic battery. He bonded out on September 3 and was scheduled to be back in court later this month.
Anyone with information on Welsh's location is asked to call 911. He is to be considered armed and dangerous.
