Got a used gun, and looked fine, looked like it was clean , etc. Action a bit stiff but still easier than many of my other one's, etc. Anway. Saw nothing that indicated it needed cleaned, but I always clean everything anyway.
So, I cleaned barrel and swabs came out blacker than I thought it should have. Everything else looked very clean. Using CLP ... sprayed it in all areas where there were moving parts, etc. and let it sit a little bit, then sprayed again and began wiping everything up and out. The CLP did it's job , and all kinds of gunk was coming out of spots and I had many black swabs as a result. I was amazed at how much was coming out. Breaking it all down, I found spots of gunk and cleaned those out..... then lubed, grease on the slide, treated the outside and put it all back together.
It was like a whole new gun. The slide had no stiffness and slid so easily... like butter. The actions were operating just as smooth, etc. as they should. Like I said... much much smoother operating gun afterwards, and one large pile of black swabs left over.
Reminded me on this one, appearances aren't everything, and it sure doesn't mean it's "clean".... and boy, does it make a difference.
