There was an elementary school shooting in Atlanta today. Not many details on it. Anyone know what went on? I know why it went on. Because the shooter didn't meet armed staff at the school.

Just heard several shots were fired inside the school and officers outside the school returned fire. Nobody injured.
20 year old arrested and charged with a felon possessing a firearm and assault on LEO charges.
Nothing said about him shooting inside the school.
Which is a Federal beef on top of the State.

Sounds like the school bookkeeper kept her head, and was able to convince the shooter to surrender. I'm glad no one got shot during the situation.

The 911 call tells it all ... lasted quite awhile, saw a lot of it on the news last night. The person went to the school office, bookkeeper called 911, he shot off some rounds like in there while she was on the phone with 911. They sent officers, he took a few shots at them out the door, but they didn't return fire. In the meantime, the women (while still on with 911) began talking to him, and talked him into surrendering... while telling him if he did anything more it would only make things worse, using words like "we can get out of this", and "get you help, we have problem times in our lives"... she had been suicidal after a divorce not that long ago. Sounds like she used good techniques, and some of the same things I used when talking people out of shooting someone out of their gun, that they were pointing at someone's head and threatening to kill them. Make it personal... "it's we" (we're in this together now) , "empathy" , getting them to realize if they do anything more it will be much worse than if they stop and surrender now, will help them, etc. ... getting them to trust you and that you do "care". She did an excellent job, and didn't lose her cool. Was able to get the police to stay back & they let her handle it (necessary for success), etc. He was concerned the police would run in and shoot him, and I have seen that be a "major" conern many times that people had about surrendering. I've also seen when police actions made that even "worse", and in a few situations had to raise hell until some officers (WPD - cowboys) were removed from the scene.... or they were going to get someone killed, and one of them might be me. So, the police did well in letting the situation play out, while still being prepared and getting in place... just in case. news.msn.com/crime-justice/video?videoid=83578ca7-6acc-6f81-46a6-8ebcc12f8055&ocid=ansnews11911 call from Georgia school shooting released newsfixnow.com/2013/08/23/911-calls-release-from-georgia-school-shooting/
