...to see who was going to get the last piece of fresh blackberry cobbler...blackberries fresh off the brier. Hay season being over, I spent time this week in the thicket reaping nature's bounty. Put a whole pork loin on the smoker and achieved a little sweet and smokey with a sticky glaze. Chopped the ends off some fresh ears of peaches and cream and dropped them in a bucket of water for and hour before putting in the smoker. Cooked up some custard early this morning and let it cool. Then, popped in the ole crank freezer this afternoon. Rounded out the feast with some fresh green beans. It don't get any better.

I had some blackberry jam recently my wife and I both agree it is the best jam ever. Love me some blackberry...my favorite...then cherry. Our crop kinda sucked this year, not sure why. Last year was a bumper year for blackberries around here. Still had 2 gal. left in the freezer. Think that will have to do for some jelly/jam. My cherry trees aren't big enough to produce, yet. Wife just finished canning the last of what peaches we had. Didn't have a lot of them this year mostly because of the high winds we've had. But they are excellent. I had some fresh sliced and offered the sweetener. I said "No way, try one." She agreed, they were plenty sweet already.
Just started picking okra and our second crop of beans. Still getting maters, too. I don't plant corn cause I can't plant enough to feed the coons. But we've gotten some excellent stuff from Voigt's vegetable stand.
