I was discussing shooting sports with a customer today. He said he was big into Cowboy shooting. I asked him how he found ammo to shoot it.
He said he reloaded. We discussed the lack of reloading supplies. He said he stockpiled all he needed and hadn't seen it until recently that everything was out at every place one went.
I told him I have been trying to buy 9mm ammo for 6 months and haven't found a single box. He said Walmart has it. I say not when i get there after work.
He leaves the store after I fix his watch and calls me a few minutes later and asks me if I would like him to pick me up the 3 fifty round boxes walmart will sell him. I say heck yeah. I have 150 rounds to practice with now. Plus a new shooting friend.

Good deal. Sounds like a good guy too.
I have had about 4 people tell me, this or that place have it... but I can leave right that second and they won't have any when I get there. LOL.
Some Cowboy shooters are ... something else, but all seem to be good folks. Just more than avid about their Cowboy shooting at times. .. LOL. Most use 'only' lead bullets. My Cousin and a friend are Cowboy shooters. They however, are a ... how to put it .... have their clichés and aren't real open to outsiders at times, from what I've seen.

A cowboy shooter : someone who shoots guns, and some do in competitions, where the guns that are used are basically those with the same basic 'function' of the guns designed and used in the later 1800's (the old Cowboy days).
* Handgun; single action only, cowboy design ... not the military type designs like the 1854 Navy. * Rifles : Level action rifles * Shotguns; typically double barrel and have to have the exterior hammers , like the 'old days'.
Some, like my cousin, are very avid about it and into the point of wearing "time period" clothing as well when they shoot. A lot do. I believe they also 'may' use the powder & ball handguns & rifles @ some competitions.

Okay, I'll bite. Just what is a "cowboy" shooter? Not to be confused with reenactors. Typically "cowboy shooters" shoot competitions organized under the auspices of SASS (Single Action Shooting Society). There are other organizations but SASS is by far the largest. The club here in the KC area is Powder Creek Cowboys. The world championship called "End Of Trail" was just held and there were almost 600 competitors in attendance. A stage usually requires 2 single action revolvers, a lever or pump action rifle and a double barrel, pump or lever action shotgun. A vid of the End Of Trail. youtu.be/GfGxQD9uYlM
