I don't know why but I'm really missing Kansas today....I miss the salt of the earth people....I miss the work ethic I saw there....I miss the slower pace of life....it seems that lately I have been running like crazy...go to work...run the kids around....help them with homework....do the chores eat dinner and then wake up at 2 AM to do It all over again...all that and I never have enough sleep or money....all around me people going nuts driving expensive SUVs and spending money they don't have on vacations and useless crap....they don't understand what I'm talking about....I miss living in Kansas and having hardworking neighbors that are happy with the simple things in life....I just want to work....spend time with my family and relax at my house....nothing less....nothing more....I miss the Kansas evenings the fireflies the catfish the Crickets...even the humidity...the simple life....things were just simpler there....

Just returned a couple of weeks ago from Florida, and share your sentiment. I said there is something to be said for living in a place that doesn't attract tourists. I'm sure you can find people in KS who live the rat race and are deep in debt, but at least you can find people here who are content to take it slower and simpler. Excitement is overrated.

I know I just want to slow down....when I lived in Eureka no one got excited...it was great....everyone would stop by and say hi....no one was in a hurry...it was a simple non stressful sort of life....if you needed help you got it you didn't even have to ask...

We miss you here too. Not that you and I have ever met in person. You sir are a good man and you do what you need to do. That is what happens in Kansas.
My father in law helped me out with being in places I didn't see as home. He told me " find the beauty in where you are and enjoy it." That was wisdom I retained and will pass onto you.

Well, have lived anywhere from a farm to a big city..... and at the time liked them all. But, I kept coming back to here for some reason. Some places I loved the terrain, lakes, mountains, etc.... but the laws were too liberal and too stupid.
Been thinking though, since now... I could really go live anywhere I wanted.... but with the gun laws, etc changing in many places, etc.... again , here seems one of the best places to be.... and I can visit those other ones.
Was thinking about you this last week, when I spent a fair amount of time at Eureka.

I am an outlaw when it comes to carrying a gun. I have carried a gun in places the law would have fried me for. I was always willing to take that chance.
Being around people with the same values I have is what makes a place home to me.
You have a Kansas home here and you know that.
You have a good thing going in Idaho too. You are teaching and helping kids to the values we all hold so dear.
It is okay to feel sorry for yourself a couple minutes every day. Then you get up and do what you have to do. I know you do that. You and your family are welcome in my home any time.
I know I am welcome in yours.
You change Idaho to become what it had to used to be.
I say that because I grew up in southern Colorado.
It was rough because of the people there. They all will fight. Over nothing at times but the fight is real.
It took me a long time to get over feeling everyone was out to get me when I was in an unfamiliar state.
Now I understand. I still will fight when I have to and sometimes too quickly.
But you have a valid point in missing Kansas and I know I am one in Kansas that misses you being here too.
I am also proud of you for what you are doing with that Charter School in Idaho.
Life is work no matter where we are living in the world and like my father in law taught me there is something good to see and enjoy anywhere you live.

Wait til the cold there really hits ya good. LOL.
My nephew grew up from about 7-20 in Florida. He wanted to come back here to finish up his degree, he said in part because he would like to see 'snow' again. The day he arrived (remember he didn't own a coat in Florida).... it was blizzard conditions, snowed 12 " and had 50 mph winds. He was ready to go back to Florida by the next day. But, he stuck it out. We still kid him about that.
After he earned his degree.... he got a job in Florida, then was in San Diego , then San Antonio, and now Atlanta, he won't get out of the south. He's passed up some great jobs in Chicago , St Louis, etc. .... he doesn't want to go north again.

Understand your feelings. I wish I could be back in Arkansas...and someday I will. But, it weighs heavy on me at times because I know that someday may be too late. For now, I'll stay here in Kansas...although I'd really rather be in Chautauqua county.
