I was a hard headed kid to say the least. When I was in High School I could run the 100 yard dash faster than the world record time.
Did it and the coach was all heck yeah you are my guy. So I joined the track team.
Before the first time I got to run for the record the coach shoved me into a corner and said. " I hear you smoke cigarettes?"
I said yeah I do. He shoved me into the lockers and then walked off. I went out to the field where he was and said. Hey Coach! He turned around and I punched him right in the nose. Told him I quit your team dumb butt.
I got suspended from school for that.
My dad was mad at me for a bit. He asked me why I did that. I told him the truth. My dad already knew I smoked since I didn't hide much from him for my whole life. Dad asked me why I just didn't go home? I said I don't let nobody push me around or punish me when I did nothing to deserve it.
My dad went back to school with me after the suspension. He told the Principal and the coach what I had told him.
The coach was at least man enough to say I had told the truth. The Principal said I shouldn't have handled it that way so asked my dad what the big deal was about my being suspended.
My dad said you don't understand the coach shoved my son into the lockers after he told him the truth which had nothing to do with his participation on a team, that coach was hired to coach.
I am not here to do anything but prove to my son, I have his back when he tells the truth and both of you can kiss my arse.
My son worked with me the time he was suspended and done a great job.
And if I ever hear of you treating him this way again I too will be here to break some noses.
I love my dad with all my heart. He is gone now and I try to remember every day how he raised the difficult kid that was me.
