When my daughter was in JR HS and they were studying about WWII, etc. .... she asked me what I did during WWII.
Today, my grandson told her, that he thought I was born somewhere around 1899. I think I know I need to work with him on his math.
Or, do I just look that old ? LOL. Most people think I'm much younger than I am. Not to them , I guess.

My kids like to say I was around in Julius Caesar's time, if that makes you feel any better. They know the truth, just that they like to razz me.

I work with a lot of younger people and they think it's funny when I mention that I remember going to school when there was no Internet and cell phones....this first cell phone I remember actually looked like a house phone and was on a cord in the vehicle...I was taught in school how to write a letter and how to properly address an envelope...they think I'm ancient...I won't lie though being 36 and having an 17 yr old daughter make me feel old...it feels like she's catching up to me in age....lol

My kids (now adults) and grandkids, all know ... because I've wanted them to understand how to do some things, and what it used to be like..... when I lived a lot with my grandfather. There was no electricity, cooked on wood stove and heat was in a pot belly stove in the livingroom. Candles at night, at best, or a flashlight. Two work horses for pulling a plow, chickens, cattle , 2 milk cows, beef cattle, etc. It was great when convinced him to run electricity, got a tractor, and installed an inside bathroom. So maybe that's why they think I must be ancient.
The best test of your bladder, is when you ave to go, and it's 10*F outside and in the middle of the night with no light. That's when you know ... how long you can really 'wait' ...

When I lived with my grandparents the only thing I vowed to never have my kids do was get up in the morning and go to that outhouse. That was plumb miserable in December.
But possibly because my kids never had to do that. They may not be as strong as I thought they would be.

I give thanks every deer season for modern conveniences. A 3 a.m. nature call isn't pleasant when it's single digits outside the tent. I've not be to the mountains for 7+ years now...but, I still remember how a hot shower can make you feel "human"...I still remember I didn't know what a shower was until junior high.
