Man fires shot at car in south Wichita
Wichita police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred late Wednesday night.
A 22-year-old man told police he heard a noise outside his house in the 1200 block of South Minnesota at about 11 p.m. Wednesday, Lt. Joe Schroeder said. That is just south of Lincoln and just west of I-135.
>
The man grabbed a gun and flashlight and went outside to see what was going on, Schroeder said. He saw a man walking toward a car in the street who appeared to wheel and act as if he was displaying a gun.
>
That man got into the car and the resident said he fired a shot at the car when the driver tried to run him over, Schroeder said. Police haven’t found the car.
>
Schroeder said police would discourage other residents from emulating this victim’s behavior.
“Your best bet is to call 911,” he said.
>
When it comes to using a gun, he said, “you use those to protect yourself, not go outside and try to detain anyone.”
